Reiki
refers not only to the energy from the higher dimension, but also to the system
of Reiki that developed from Usui Sensei's teachings
Usui
trained from an early age, when he entered a Tendai Buddhist monastery near
Kuramayama, developing endless skills throughout his life from 'Kiko'. (Qigong)
and martial arts to psychic development, enthusiastically
studying many religions and healing methods.
Usui
Sensei's first revelation of enlightenment was ‘Anshin Ritsumei’, being at peace with your
path in life and letting nothing disturb you. He even went into Zen Buddhism for
three years but still couldn't find the ultimate enlightenment he was looking
for, and so he asked for advice from his Zen master, who told him that he
probably needed to experience death to find it.
So
in March 1922 Usui went to Mt Kurama to fast until death. Three weeks later at
midnight he felt a great shock inside his brain and he was
knocked unconscious by powerful Reiki energy. When he awoke it was morning and
he felt full of energy. He was aware that universal energy was resonating with
the energy within him. He realized that "I am the universe and the universe
is me"; he had found enlightenment at last.
On
the way down from the mountain he tripped and ripped his toenail. His natural
reaction was to hold on to it, but to his surprise his injury was healed and the
pain relieved. He told his Zen master what had happened, who encouraged him to
teach others how to use this healing energy in order to achieve their own
enlightenment.
Usui
Sensei developed 'The Usui Reiki Treatment for Improvement of Body and
Mind', He
offered regular 'blessings 'to his students, which developed into 'Reiju
empowerments' and then to 'attunements' in the West. He initiated
20 of his students to the status of 'Shihan' to pass on the teachings to others.
One
of these senior students, Dr Hayashi,
taught Mrs. Hawayo Takata who brought Reiki to the western world. Reiki has been
taught in the west as 'Usui Shiki Ryoho', the Usui Method of Healing. However
since the 1990s, we have both Frank Arjava Petter, and also Hiroshi Doi, a URR
Gakkai member, to thank for bringing early traditional Reiki teachings to the
west.
The Energy Beam's
energy lineage is: Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, Chiyoko Yamaguchi,
Rev Hyakuten Inamoto, Raymonde Leeumans, (also Richard R. Rivard) Sheila
Neville.
